In an example of a complex NDT inspection project our NDT team recently took care of the rigs of the Dubois designed Perini Navi superyacht Squall, one of the world’s big sailing yachts at 52.34m (171’8″ft).
The process is an example of one of our major NDT inspection projects since Squall’s rigs are large and complex. The rig was unstepped and more than 360 components, a full lorry load in fact, were been shipped to the company’s central facility in Hamble for non-destructive testing (NDT) using our dye penetrant process, to detect any tiny flaws, in which case the component would be replaced.
During this time the mast was repainted and the rigging and hydraulics serviced. Following a complete engineering refit and teak deck replacement for the yacht our team returned to the project location in Palma, Mallorca to reassemble the rig after which the yacht was back on the water for the summer season.
