A full survey was required by insurers following the grounding of a yacht during an offshore race during a recent summer. Advanced NDT was applied to the mast, keel and rudder to check for damage, using ultrasound, with phased array high frequency inspection being applied to the mast.
“We are looking to detect any issues,” explains Giles Waterhouse of International NDT. “We report our findings to the original manufacturers of the components, and they will then use this information in any consequent insurance claim and on-going risk management.”
